Here’s how it all began…

In 2011 freelance cameraman Jeremy Schultz passed away following a fire at his home that left his family in a nearly impossible position as they lost their home and all of their possessions.

In the following weeks, however, CBS, with the help of the Alma Foundation and SVG, was able to raise more than $50,000 to help his family begin to rebuild their lives and pay for medical bills.

Several years back a similar and separate fund was created for the family of Ron Scalise, who this year is being inducted into the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame.

Helping Jeremy and Ron and their families was worth the time and effort for all of us but we realized we need a way to act more quickly. Going through the legal process of setting up a fund takes time, and when someone is in need that time is something we cannot afford to lose.

The Sports Broadcasting Fund is a charitable entity for our industry to reach out and respond to those in need with appropriate support.
