The SVG Sports Broadcasting Fund provides in-direct financial support by paying medical bills, insurance premiums, housing costs, and more for those who find themselves in need due to injury, illness, family crisis, or disaster. The SVG Sports Broadcasting Fund is a not-for-profit, section 501(c)(3) corporation.

Who is eligible for assistance?

Applicants must have worked in the sports broadcasting production industry for one year. They can be a freelancer or can also be a full-time employee of a production company, team, league, network, or other associated company.

I lost work due to an event that was cancelled because of the coronavirus/COVID 19 pandemic. Can I apply for assistance?

Loss of work due to the cancellation of a production/event is not a qualifying event.

Are immediate family members eligible for support?

Yes, immediate family members of those employed in the sports broadcasting field are eligible for grant support. For example, if a husband, wife, or partner is undergoing medical treatments the fund can be used to help with those bills.

Can a European resident apply for assistance?

Unfortunately, no. Applicants must be U.S. or Canadian residents.

How does the process work?

Applicants apply for aid by filling out a grant application (click here to Download the Grant Application). Each application requires an advocate which could be an immediate supervisor, family member, or industry friend who can valid the need.

Once completed take photos or scans of the pages and send the scans or photos to Ken Kerschbaumer via email at kenkersch@sportsvideo.org. Ken will be in touch if there are any issues and he will also submit it to the Advisory Board for approval, a process that typically takes 36 hours once the application is received.

Once approved Carrie Bowden (carrie@sportsvideo.org) will contact you to get more details on the bills you wish to have paid. Typically the bills are scanned and sent to the Fund, checks are written directly to the payee, and then the checks are sent back to the applicant who then sends them onward to the payee.

Can the Fund provide direct financial assistance?

No. The Fund supports those in need by paying bills directly on their behalf. Typical bills include mortgages, rent, medical bills, car payments, insurance payments, and more. Checks will be written to pay those bills and then forwarded on to the recipient who will then send them to the payee.

Can the Fund reimburse the applicant for bills already paid?

Unfortunately no as that would expose the applicant to tax liability and mean that help offered today may mean additional bills in the future.

How much can I apply for?

Initial grants do not exceed $5,000 but Iindividuals may apply and receive up to three (3) grants for a total of $15,000. All grants will require documentation, invoices or receipts before being paid.
